Hard-working FEMALE musicians 2021 | Zimbabwe

By Earground:

The year has been a difficult one with the Covid 19 pandemic still active, however this did not stop musicians from working and creating. More women entered showbiz in 2021 and the quality of work has been very impressive. Here are my pick for the ladies who made some amazing work amongst many others.

By Plot Mhako

FELI NANDI _ Rose from a backing vocalist to become one of the most booked and sought after voice in Zimbabwe. Her consistency through the year has been compelling. 2022 i see her cementing her position in the music industry as one of the top acts and setting a foot beyond the borders.

VIMBAI ZIMUTO _ In a single year i lost count of how many times the Netherlands based artist frequented Zim to produce new great material. Her attention to detail, sense of fashion and brand packaging is on another level. Undoubtedly the best dressed performer! Yes, i said it. In 2022 people may need to see beyond her curves and pay attention to her music.

JANET MANYOWA _ As she prepares for yet another epic concert, the Gospel diva won a major award in SA, hosted some epic, fully subscribed concerts at home. Her work ethic remains one of the best in the country. For 2022 i expect more and more glory from her.

JOYRUKANZA _ If someone has a vivid picture of where we are heading and should be as an industry then that JoyRukanza. The UK based songbird had one of the best virtual concert, dropped superb visuals and as if that was not enough she sealed the year with a dope festival in Bulawayo that had all the writings of amazing. In 2022 i look forward to her debut album.

RUTENDO JACKIE _ Stars never keep rising from the East. The AfroFusion artist is one of the well invested artist in the industry. Her live set, videos and musical direction paints a beautiful picture for a music industry that often focuses on the capital city for stars. At the pace she is moving we must be ready for surprises in 2022. Branding on point! More marketing needed.

NB_ this list is not exhaustive. There is a huge amazing movement of super talented artists in the country and the diaspora who will unsettle the space in 2022.
